THE OLSON GAME BIRDS STORY.....

In 1968, wheat farmers, Peter and Lois Olson (top right), with
amazing foresight and courage, made the adventurous decision to
establish a commercial game bird enterprise on their broadacre
property just north of Swan Hill, Victoria.  Adventurous, because at
that time the Australian restaurant industry was very much in its
infancy.

The Olsons faced huge challenges in sourcing breeding stock, acquiring
specific information on game bird management and establishing markets.
However, with the encouragement and support of new young European
chefs…particularly the now-legendary Hermann Schneider, who
remained a loyal customer until his recent retirement…Olson Game
Birds thrived, prospered and expanded. Today, the same business which began
as a daring venture, can boast of having provided an uninterrupted supply of
genuine free range game birds to restaurants and gourmet food outlets
throughout Australia for over 40 years.

Current owners, Kevin and Ros O’Bryan (bottom right) purchased the business
in 1995 and have been proud to carry on the Olson name. Kevin’s farming
background and Ros' 'Home Eco" teaching background has resulted in a
passion and a commitment to producing only the finest quality table bird.
To achieve this, the O’Bryans use selective breeding programs, have introduced
new bloodlines and raise the birds in idyllic conditions … ranging free in vast enclosures in a habitat very similar
to that of a bird in the wild.

Kevin and Ros offer their unreserved assurance that no antibiotics or growth promotants are added to the
grain-based diet of their birds and all farming practices adhere strictly to organic principles.

UPDATE:

In 2006, due to increased demand for top quality pheasant, Olson Game Birds teamed with
award winning producer, Glenloth Game, to become the largest producers of freerange
game birds in the Southern Hemisphere.

Pheasant and Guinea fowl are now bred at Olson Game Birds, and grown out and marketed
by Glenloth Game under the Glenloth label. Partridge are bred and grown out by Olson
Game Birds, processed by Glenloth Game but only available frozen through farm gate sales.
